beauty: mascara was my first lowe
I was in Starbucks yesterday and the lady behind me asked me what mascara I use so I thought I’d share it with the world through beauty tip #5!
3 Words: Mac Zoom Lash
LASH MAINTENANCE: DO NOT
-Use waterproof unless absolutely needed
-Use a dirty lash curler (be gentle and cautious as they can cut your lashes)
-Rub your eyes vigorously in the morning after waking up with a full face of makeup on
-Use baby oil on a regular (it gives you those little white bumps under your eyes)
-Use old dry mascara. It does your lashed no justice
APPLICATION
-Gently apply a black pencil to the base of your lashes on the under part of your eye line so to give your lash line a solid dark foundation
-Take applicator out of mascara bottle pressing on one side of the bottle so the other side of applicator is full of product
-Apply the clump side of applicator to the base of your lashes and work your way to the tips of the lashes
-Zig-Zag Effect: If you move the applicator back and forth and slowly work towards the tips of your lashes, you may not even need to use a lash curler (This is my secret to never using a lash curler!)
-Build Your Lashes: When your lashes are almost dry, apply a little extra to the tips, building the product on the tips of your lashes. This will make it appear that your lashes are longer.
When looking at the pic, the eye to the left (my right eye) has just mascara on. See the dramatic difference a little line does to the right lash (my left eye)

Thanks Coco lol.
Lee, I’m against waterproof mascara because the way I layer my mascara and clump the base makes it nearly impossible to take off and I just don’t suggest it for daily use. If you’re swimming or at the beach sweating, it’s fine but the oily removers and the vigorous rubbing that goes into removing waterproof is just too much. What’s even more of a disaster= sleeping on it, and spending half an hour in the morning trying to take it all off!!

Lowe, do you have any tips for applying eye makeup that can last all day long?
I’m having trouble avoiding that ‘I applied my makeup in a steam room’ look 3 hours after application.
I’m mostly using makeup from The Body Shop and I have oily skin.
Thanks Lowe!

Zoe,
If there is any word of advise I can give (not being an expert) is don’t used oil based products. MAC cosmetics don’t have oil in them and aren’t super expensive. If you’re applying concealer and foundation, it may be too many layers of clay-like products on your skin. Try a powder based foundation. Also, bronzer or anything with shimmer could be contributing to the steamy look. Use a matte powder and only apply shimmer on your eye lid and upper cheek. Those blotting sheets (I think they sell them at Body Shop) are great to keep in your purse and use throughout the day.
Other contributing factors that I learned through dermalogica is the importance of:
a. washing your face before applying makeup
b. keeping your sheets and pillows clean so there is less oil build up
c. oily hair can contribute to oily skin, so wash regularly and don’t use oily products in your hair and on your skin.
d. make sure you are using the right moisturizer or rehydration cream. Oily skin doesn’t mean nourished skin.
Hope all of this helps!!

Lowe

Great tips on the comment and post that Zig-Zag effect really works, I was worried I would get clumps but it’s great!
Tip though: if you use an oil based mascara try wiping the brush bone dry (after the application of mascara)and then on your lashes, curl the brush towards your eye while twisting…

Natalie
P.S. could you guys do a post on essie or OPI which one is best?

Ever since this mascara post, I’ve used Lowe’s ‘Application’ method, and as you would say, I’ve had GORGE lashes ever since – LOVE IT! (Although I think I’m gonna check out ‘Winks’ next – would like not to HAVE to wear mascara….)
You guys would kick ass with ‘How-To’ videos too – Love the ‘Winks’ and ‘Eyebrows’ posts!

I have the dermalogica night clearning gel and I noticed it seems to make me break out at first. Is this common? To break out at first then your pimples go away..or should I just stop using it?I heard the dermalogica stuff is really good so I want to keep giving it a try but not if its just going to make me break out. What should I do?
