style: distressing denim 101
As ripped jeans are all the rage right now and they look so damn good on everyone, I thought instead of buying a new pair of white jeans, why not re-invent the white jeans I purchased last summer. I did a little research and here are some pointers on distressing jeans yourself:
TOOLS YOU MAY NEED:
*The dustbuster is for cleaning up the mess you’ll make from the sandpaper, and denim particles that will be all over your floor*
STEP 1…
Put the jeans on and use a piece of chalk to map out where you would like the rips and distressed areas to be located.
STEP 2…
Use the sand paper on knees and front of thighs. The cheese grater is a quicker/stronger way to really distress your jeans in no time. Just make sure to have cardboard or something thick on the inside of the part of jean you are working on.
STEP 3…
Take the boxcutter and slice a thin horizontal line along the thigh or knee and pick apart the fibers in the knees.
STEP 4…
Machine wash and dry your jeans twice. Everytime you wash them, they will become more and more distressed looking.
OTHER…
*For this look, bunch areas on old black jeans and pour a bit of Clorox on each and let it soak in. When you’re happy with the colour, rinse out the bleach. I suggest you do this in the tub, with clothes on you don’t care about, wearing plastic gloves or else you’ll be smelling like bleach for days! lol
When I’m finished distressing my white Zara jeans, I’ll post a pic and let you in on any tactics that worked for me!

Lowe
