tuned in: Chris Bosh’s First Ink
I had the pleasure of getting a pre-release copy of Chris Bosh’s documentary First Ink yesterday. I have to admit I went into watching the film with a little skepticism, ‘a movie about a tattoo?’ But after watching it, I now know I was totally wrong. This short film is about so much more than a tattoo. It’s about a man with extraordinary talents and even larger responsibility. Chris Bosh (the captain of the Toronto Raptors) wants to make a change, he wants to be more of the leader that he is destined to be. What was so interesting to me is that as a basketball fan you sometimes forget that the people you are cheering on (and occasionally booing) are actually human beings, with feelings and hopes and dreams. Seeing Chris Bosh’s absolute determination to put on weight and become stronger to enable him to be a more powerful player was inspiring especially because when you watch the games and see his stats this season you can actually see the product of his hard work.
Although the movie is centered around his transformation and him marking it with his first tattoo, it was totally motivating to see that even those we consider to be at the top of their game are still pushing to be better. I think Chris said it best when he said,
“You think you’re working hard? You can work harder.”
The other ‘quotable’ I took from the movie was said by Hadi Teherany Chris’ business partner and co-producer of First Ink:
“Life is too short to hold a grudge, even for a day.”
words to live by!
This movie would be a great gift for any sports enthusiast or just someone in your life that likes to learn about other people’s experiences. We are all struggling for something, we all have our own mountains to climb and crosses to bare and if we could all understand that I think we’d all be in a far better place.
Here’s the preview if you haven’t seen it yet:
