I knew they were too good (or bad) to be true!

Picture 91

A couple of weeks ago I saw a troop of teenage girls walking down the street and they were all rocking Uggs, nothing earth shattering there…  The surprise/shock for me was that almost all of the girls seemed to be walking on the outside or the inside of the Uggs which was causing the super comfy suede material to tear.  I, having super high arches find Uggs comfy for an hour or so but then find the lack of support makes these ‘pillows for the feet’ feel almost worse than my 6 inchers!  I have pretty much stopped wearing them all together, albeit for more reasons than just lack of support (they make me feel like I should be in pj’s) but when I saw those girls I started to think we may have more of a problem on our hands and after seeing a post on Jezebel aptly entitled ‘The 13 Ugliest Shoes In The World’ I am now convinced we do.

“Because these boots are warm and soft, young girls think they are giving their feet a break. In fact, they are literally breaking their feet… Their feet are sliding around inside. With each step, the force falls towards the inside of the foot and the feet splay. This flattens the arch and makes it drop. The result can be significant problems with the foot, the ankle, and, ultimately, the hip.”

I am terrified of having ugly feet – I have no idea why, there are far worse fates- but  I have always equated hammer toes to narrow stilettos and subsequently stopped wearing them.  To know now that there is conclusive evidence to prove that Uggs can be harmful to feet – especially to the feet of a developing young girl- maybe people should take more caution in wearing them every waking second!  Maybe people will start to wear proper shoes out for dinner, on airplanes and out for dates… just saying… lol

As you know I’ve experienced hip dislocation at a young age and let me tell you it is NOT FUN!  I’m all for comfort, comfort is fun, but comfort should never come at a cost.

As Dr. Ian Drysdale, head of the British College of Osteopathic Medicine says Uggs are

“harming the feet of a generation of young women.”

Little ladies be warned.  Rock your Uggs, just not everyday.

only with love and concern,

coco

p.s. apparently Jimmy Choo has teamed up with Ugg to make the brand better? I was thinking something more along the lines of Dr Scholls but we shall see…

check it HERE

p.p.s. not all Uggs are created alike. There are a few pairs that have a little more support and the Sorel style one has full support.

Ha! I love it, there is now scientific proof that ugly shoes are bad for your health! Though I own a pair I only wear them when I am guaranteed to NOT be seen by the Glamour police!

    Hey ladies – Great Post!
In today’s Toronto star Life section they spoke about the same thing. I rocked my Uggs a few to many times this winter season, I will think twice about it now.
