beauty: Don’t Go To The Cosmetic Counter Without Me
Not sure if that bronzer is good for your combination skin? Â Overwhelmed when you walk into Sephora and don’t even know where to begin when it comes to brands and products? Â Don’t Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me 8th Edition, just might be your saving grace. Â ’Cosmetic Cop’ Paula Begoun scours makeup and skin care counters around the world and puts almost every product that comes on the market under rigorous testing. Â She’s a myth busting, false promises exposing makeup vigilante that for once has the consumer in mind.
Here’s an excerpt from her book where she explains the importance of a ‘Cosmetic Cop’.
Because I truly believe you’re only properly equipped when you have the facts, why not know what you’re putting on (and subsequently in) your body before you do it. Â I was pleased to discover that my favorite foundation (Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation) got full marks which makes me more comfortable with the price. Â I was also interested to see that Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips (an absolute must have for Lowe and me) got a less than stellar review. Â Will we stop using it as a result? Â Probably not, but because Begoun gives an alternative product to try, it lets us know that there are other options out there available to try if and when we’re ready to let go…..
This book really helps alleviate the pressure I always feel when makeup shopping at department stores. Â Now you can know all you need to know about a product before you’re bullied into buying it. Â The latest edition -8th- is available now for purchase online HERE or at your local bookstore. Â If you don’t want the entire book, you can sign up online (for a fee) and search your products online.

Paula makes some interesting points and objections but it comes down to personal preference and budget when it comes to the cosmetic industry. Wish I would have thought of this book first lol

This is one of my go-to gifts for ladies in my life. Love the concept. I’ve seen and read about Paula basically everywhere. I recently had some skin issues and went back to dermalogica (complete with a facial) to normalize my skin.
I picked-up this book yesterday (it’s the first copy I’ve owned) and leafed through the products that my Dermalogica rep suggested, then continued on to read about the products that are in my medicine cabinet.
Paula’s book is somewhat disappointing – lots of
and
and not a lot of
reviews – or better yet not a lot of products she recommends with her trademark check mark.
I’ve read on here that Coco & Lowe have tried Dermalogica before – not sure if it’s made it into their everyday use – but does anyone else out there use it? It’s a hefty investment, but has literally cured my skin, so I have to take Paula’s advice with a grain of salt (or the entire bottle, at this point).

Hey Kate,
Hey Kate,
I use Dermalogica everyday and it’s a perfect match for my skin. Lowe on the other hand finds a few of their products (that were chosen for her skin by an expert) to be irritating. What I think is that although it is expensive, and doesn’t get the best reviews, it’s what works for you personally. I totally take what Paula says with a grain of salt but also love reading her informed opinion….. As a matter of fact, I just re-stocked on my Dermalogica today (after reading what she had to say) because I know it works and I don’t want to risk bad skin right now. Although, because I read what I did, I have considered implementing a few different products in the future.
Like I said, stick with what you like but always be informed.
thanks for the comment and good luck with the products.
