adventures…: detroit for the auto show with ford!
Last week I headed south to Motor city to attend the North American International Auto Show for the launch of Ford’s newest creation, the Ford Fusion.
Day One started with a welcome dinner at the Henry Ford Museum for the 150 bloggers invited from around the world. This 80,000 square foot museum has recently had a facelift and will re-launch to the public at the end of the month with an exhibit called ‘Driving America’. This museum is of great historical significance not only having been formerly known as the Edison Institute (uh-hem, remember that guy that invented the light bulb?!) but also for having inventory such as JFK’s presidential limousine, Abe Lincoln’s chair and the bus Rosa Parks made history on.
Me and fellow blogger Casie Stewart had fun sipping on RootBeer shakes in the Lamy’s diner exhibit. Check out the prices on the menu!
Day 2…
…started bright and early with the media launch of the new Ford Fusion. The concert-like venue was filled with mass media from around the world.
Then it was off to the Auto Show where brands displayed their newest models, demonstrated the making of sustainable materials and showcased concept cars that could take us into the 23rd century!
The mission is possible!
A cyclist’s dream – So Smart!
He’s way more snuggly in person.
We finished the evening off with a dinner at Ford Motors’ World Headquarters followed by some amazing presentations. One was by artist Jonathan Brand, who actually took the time to recreate a 1969 Mustang Coupe out of…paper – Talk about patience and determination!
Day Three we got to learn about the process of making cars at Ford’s Production Facility. We saw drawings, got to understand design methods and reasoning, learned about sustainable materials, and helped create a model car out of clay!
The big word of the week was ‘Sustainability’ and Ford has introduced products such as reclaimed plastic, soybeans, and other renewable materials in the making of their cars parts. Other cool features are things like Parking Assist (helps do the dirty work of parallel parking itself) and a Lane Keeping System which helps drivers avoid drifting between lanes.
Our last adventure was the clay model room but no pictures were allowed in there so we made sure to get our dose of silly pics in the hallway before entering.
The only clay pic you’ll see is the one of this little elephant sitting on the thermostat in the hallway. Cutsies!
The beautiful sunset at the Detroit Airport.
Be sure to check out the full gallery below and a big thanks to Ford Social for such a memorable experience!
