I’ve been looking for an amazing piece of Canadian art for this big old black wall that we have in our house. When my friend Rob posted a link on fb I clicked and instantly fell in love with Greg Angus’ work!
Holding a degree in Fine Arts from Queens and a Masters from UBC, Angus (a Burlington Ontario native) has travelled the world with his art. From Scotland to Japan, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and his art is held in both private and public collections.
I am personally in love with Angus’ unapologetic use of colour and texture. I feel like I could stare at any one of his paintings for days.
Watch this video to see how Greg uses wax, fingerprints and paint to get the amazing effect in his work, plus he’s a black belt in Aikido! Amazingness!
Scottish artist, Georgia Russell’s ‘dissected printed matter’ is in museums, magazines and restaurants around the world and I had to share her works with you. They are genius. She takes anything from maps, newspapers, photos etc and slashes, slices and dices them into beautiful works of art.

Born and raised in Toulouse France, Fafi’s strong presence in the graffiti and fine arts scene was first witnessed on her hometown walls in 1994. Back then, as she was painting and hustling, her sexy, funny, and sometimes aggressive girl characters made the whole world look and help kick-start a whole new graphic language; by exploring feminity through stereotypes, and using it to her advantage, she drew enormous attention and thus started to travel the world with thousands of Fafinettes in her brushes and paint cans. Europe, USA, Japan, Hong-Kong, the planet is a playground. And it’s only started.
Soon enough Sony would ask her to design a six-character toy set for the Time Capsules collection, an almost natural move for her three-dimensional measures. Other successful figurines would follow, as well as numerous expositions and collaborations with Colette, Adidas, LeSportSac, Coca-Cola, M.A.C cosmetics and countless press stories in the most prestigious magazines (ie. Vogue, Elle, The Face, XLR8R, Yen etc…). (-text care of fafi.net)
My friend’s avatar on twitter was of a Fafi sketch and after doing some reasearch, Fafi is everywhere! We’ve probably all seen a fafinette somewhere! It’s like pin-up anime graffiti and the characters she draws are all so cute. Whether it’s a sexy seductress or a chubby chick, her talent is super versatile without losing the true style of the fafinette.

Fafi even did animation for Mark Ronson’s video featuring music from Lily Allen called Oh My God!

I was stopped dead in my tracks on Queen West this weekend when I saw the beautiful mountain of ballet points in Magic Pony’s store window. This piece is called SKID, which artist, Sonja Ahlers explains as the more appropriate word for ‘ghetto’. LOL. Take a look and make sure to let me know what you think!:
'A pile of broken toe shoes'
‘A Lake: flaxen-haired arian-looking girl/dutch-ess creating protective gate for a hamster (sonic youth album reference). stevie – a real lady! – grows from her head.’ -Sonja
‘Books became small mountains become circus tents with red flags/warning signals.’ -Sonja
‘Pinnipeds cut out from rescued National Geographics. Pinnipeds are seals. Pinnies and pennies (accident!)’-Sonja
Sonja lives in Toronto and her bio is a must read, explaining that she was almost in Vogue once, got caught for shoplifting and stopped making art in highschool because of boys and clothes! Click the pic for full bio.
Her collages of art, random thoughts, metaphors and different materials contribute to her awesomeness!
When I think of Miami I think of sunshine, beaches, party time, beautiful people and Remero Britto. Last year when Mimi, Kiki, Lowe and I went down looking for buyers for Brazen, we were walking on Lincoln and were drawn into this beautiful gallery that was displaying all of this magical artwork that we had seen all over Miami since we had been there. The gallery was famed pop artist Romero Britto’s. We instantly fell for his colourful, oversized, jovial pieces. His art makes you happy just like the sun.
Now the world’s most famous Pop Artist, having been compared to legends like Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, Britto’s humble beginnings as a child of 8 living in Brazil may be a distant memory, but a memory that has made all of this possible. Britto’s insistence on the accessibility of art has made him an artistic activist stating that ‘art is too important not to share.’ Although not everyone can have the pleasure of owning a Britto original, the fact that his art is displayed in public spaces all over Miami bears truth to his beliefs.
“For me, art can reflect the celebration of the simple and the good things in life. This is most important to me!” Romero Britto
