travel: The Mark, NYC

I swooped into NY for the night a couple of Wednesdays ago and had the absolute pleasure of staying at the newly opened Mark Hotel.  Not easily impressed by hotels in New York – overpriced and undersized – The Mark proves that you can do A LOT with a little and that stripes make everything better!

Tucked away on a quiet residential street on the Upper East Side, The Mark  -which has been around since 1927- was renovated and re-opened in 2009.  Designed by famed French designer Jacques Grange, the hotel is a magical nod to Art Deco style with all of the modern day luxuries which we mortals have become desperately attached.  From free wi-fi to touch screen everything and tip of your finger convenience this hotel is so where it’s at.  To add to my shameless gushing, the way the hotel was able to incorporate a luxurious warm and welcoming vibe while staying hip and modern is in my humble opinion unmatched.

The TV within the mirror was a nice touch.  Makes getting ready so much more entertaining!

the towels and pillows were monogramed, my fave!

The mini bar was hidden discretely behind these doors:

and even included a self filling ice tray.  No need to walk down the hall to find ice.

I had drinks at the bar (pictured below) and dinner at The Mark Restaurant by Jean Georges.  Both are beautiful but to be brutally honest the people that frequent the bar – and I’ve tested this theory more that once – are atrocious.  So pretty, yes, but if you aren’t staying at The Mark and enjoying all of the other fabulous things it has to offer, there are way cooler places to fill your cup than The Mark Bar….  And those are the only negative words I will speak of this otherwise heavenly place.

more random lobby shots

and sneaky doormen…  I see uuuuu! lol

adventures of coco & lowe: best day everrrrr!

On Sunday my lovely besties took me on a magical surprise day in the Niagara region.

We started the day bright and early with some horseback riding -one of my favorite childhood pastimes!!!

From left to right: Lowe on Lex, Mimi on Molson, Kiki on  Earl and me on Cobra.

Surprisingly the horses matched our personalities exactly.  Lex, a dreamer.  Molson, the class clown.  Earl had zero patience and fought with Molson and Cobra followed all of the rules! lol

We went on a lovely ride through the trails which made us feel at one with nature.  The only thing that was missing was a little bit of open land that we could gallop and canter on.

We then headed to Niagra-on-the-Lake for a bike/wine tour.  None of us are big wine drinkers so the tour proved to be very informative, plus riding bikes with a little vino in your system is beyond!

The whole day made me so happy!  It was like a true adventure.  Being on a bike made me feel like I was a kid again riding through Mimi & Kiki’s unpaved subdivision all day until we were called in for supper.  The tour ran a little late so we missed high tea but ended up stopping at an amazing fresh fruit stand where we loaded up on the most delicious cherries, apricots and peaches. yummmm!

If you haven’t been to Niagra-On-The-Lake I highly recommend it.  It’s not only perfect for a romantic getaway, it’s a great thing to do with some of your close friends if you want to get the chance to experience something different.  The area is absolutely stunning and if you’re into wine or want to learn more like we did, take a bike tour and get to see the countryside up close and personal.

On our way home we were held up by this massive boat passing, so we did what we do best, PHOTO SHOOT! LOL!

When we finally got through all of the traffic, I got home sleepy and smelling like ‘outside’, but felt full of love and inspired for the week to come.

Big hugs and kisses to my besties for always being the best friends a girl could ever imagine having!!!

Look What We Made!!: love charm bracelet

Lowe and I are obsessed with friendship bracelets so we did what we do best, we made our own!

Over the holidays I was feeling a little womp, womp and when I was perusing twitter I came to realize I wasn’t the only one.  I got to thinking that if I – a person with a loving family and a good group of friends- could still feel lonely, then maybe it wasn’t so much about other people but more about me.  We decided to make the ‘love friendship charm bracelet’ mean something more than just another piece of jewelry.  We wanted the love bracelet to be a reminder of the love within.

So just to hammer our message home we’ve included our message on the packaging which looks a little something like this:

The bracelet comprised is of an engraved brass disc and gold plated enclosure on a red elasticized string.  It comes in one size and is a perfect compliment to a watch or other bracelets you’re already wearing.  We chose brass because we wanted a material that over time looked worn in or vintage, loved, like your favorite pair of jeans.  This idea came from not only our love of all things vintage but from when I was  a child in hospital about to go into surgery.  I had a brand new teddy bear and the girl beside me had an old one – missing an eye, matted fur- and the nurse picked up her teddy and said “Now THAT is a teddy that’s been loved.”  After I heard that all I wanted in life was a teddy that looked loved, so from that point on my brand new teddy did not leave my side.

Just like my teddy, I have yet to let my ‘love’ bracelet leave my side.  I wear it to bed, in the shower, to the gym and the more I wear it, the more a reflection of me and a reminder of the love inside me it becomes!

The ‘love’ charm bracelet is now available online in our store (click HERE) and also in Toronto at Guys & Dolls – 803 King St West.  It retails for $20 (shipping included) and is the perfect gift for yourself or a special person in your life.

with LOVE,

feelin’ the fish-tale!

The ‘messy braid’ (or fish-tale) seems to be the perfect addition to my official summer hairstyle go to – the ‘messy bun’.  Because I am absolutely clueless when it comes to doing my hair, I have no advice on how to properly achieve this effect…

ENTER LOWE.

I will tie the little one down to get her to do a tutorial about this hair if I have to!

Look at how Leona Lewis rocked it recently:

brilliant! (and I love her tattoo!!)

V-log to come!
