adventures of coco & lowe: indoor golf!

Last Friday, Coco and I had the opportunity to take a golf lesson at Lakeshore Links, an indoor golf experience in Toronto which I was expecting to be a tall, multilevel indoor bubble. I was so wrong! It was a bright one level building with multiple rooms, a putting area and a fully stocked bar. See our experience, the venue and get some golfing style tips when you read more.

Private suite

Our instructor’s name was Ryan Woods, a passionate and professional golfer who has been dedicated to his craft for over fifteen years. He gave us great pointers on form, footwork and follow-through. It was my first time swinging a club and there is so much to remember! You have to keep grounded, bend your knees, isolate your upper body from your hips, pull back with strategic placement of arms and wrists and follow through like a baseball pitcher. I developed a huge appreciation for golfers.

Coco had perfect form and hit 126 yards!

The simulator calculates your drive distance, speed and height. It really makes you feel like you’re out on the green!

Putting was fun too!

Regardless of if you’re a golf pro or have never picked up a club, you never know when you’ll be invited to a golf course with friends or to attend a charity golf tourney *standby for info on a celebrity charity golf tourney we’re involved in organizing! The big question is what do you wear?  Keep it simple and conservative, not wearing your shorts too short or your t-shirt too low cut (not a good idea for the bustier ladies, we can attest to that!). Comfortable shoes are a good idea whether they are runners, ChuckTaylors or even brogues. Light colours help keep you cool as it can get extremely hot out in the green and bringing a hat is definitely a good idea.

Random things I noticed about golf:

You have to have a lot of patience.

Boobs definitely get in the way of your form.

If you have carpal-tunnel, this is probably not the best choice of sport.

Any and every golf term can be turned into a sexual connotation. LOL

Boys like golf, so it quite possibly could be a good place to meet them.

Boys like girls who try to golf.

A special thanks to Joe for the invitation!!

what i’ve been reading…

This week on the Style Collective circuit, I read up on trends, tips and the best of 2010. We also welcomed our newest member of the Collective, Anya of www.imtheitgirl.com based out of Vancouver. Check her out!

This week I’m three things: cold, dry and hungover. These Christmas parties have gotten the best of me!

BeautyEditor had the answer to hangover season with a bunch of tips and products that will have you as good as new by noon. As for my face feeling tighter and rougher than ever, Chickadvisor featured the most popular skincare products of 2010. The last complaint on my list are that my feet are always cold! Gifted posted cashmere socks and although a little pricey, cashmere anything is worth every penny. These socks look like they’ll keep my footsies nice and toasty warm.

Something else that brought me to that warm place were the pics Janine of Beautygeeks took while in Jamaica.

There are some awesome shots over at her site.

Not only do we have a new addition to the team but I’m happy to announce that Afiya from TheStyleHouse is the new ‘fashion expert’ on The Marilyn Denis show! Congrats to her!

WhatWomenWant featured a new initiative that’s been circling the internet lately. Borrowing from the idea of the 12 days of Christmas, each day for a 12 day period you will be asked to take part in random acts of unselfishness. I think this is a really cool idea. Find out more about it here.

Also in spirit for the Holidays, KimVallee found these awesome printable holiday ‘photo booth’ accessories on Etsy. This is a great way to spice up a holiday party with extended relatives.

Make sure to also check out iWantiGot’s great selection of Spring Summer 2010 collection for Aquilano Rimondi.

Happy Monday!

stimulate your style: tip #2-lining

A good tailored blazer is hard to find and definitely considered essential to your wardrobe. As you can see, I’m a little obsessed.

Seeing as we all have such different proportions, when you find one that fits just the way you like, it usually gets it’s share of wear and tear. This happened with a vintage Maxazria blazer I found in LA. The entire lining was ripped to shreds after my many years of wearing it but I just couldn’t give it up. Another perfect fitting blazer I got at TopShop had white lining…confessions of a bronzer fiend! A few weeks after buying it, I was embarrassed to reveal the lining had now taken on an orange tint.

Instead of spending my time and money finding a new blazer, I decided to re-line my existing faves.

Here’s how:

1. FABRIC STORE

-Take the blazers you want to alter to a fabric store, show the store assistant what the lining looks like already. They will guide you in the right direction based on fabric, thickness, stretch/no stretch etc.

-Choose a fabric whether it’s the same as before or a cool pattern that enhances the style of the blazer.

*Tip: Have an idea of what style you’re going for because the selection in fabric stores can get extremely overwhelming

2. TAILOR

-Bring the fabric and blazer to a tailor to get re-lined.

*Tip: If you want to add elbow patches, now is the time. Once the lining is in place, they’ll have to redo the arm lining to add them. Also, if you are planning on getting this drycleaned do so first.

Here are some designer blazers with various linings:

Out of the three that I got re-lined, I added a leopard lining to my TopShop number, a classic black to the vintage one and an army green to my boyfriend blazer. They are as good as new!

This is just another way to stimulate your style!
