events: Victoria’s Secret Toronto

Lowe and I had the pleasure of a ‘sneak peak’ of the highly anticipated Victoria’s Secret store at Yorkdale last night.

Unfortunately for some reason we weren’t allowed to take pictures – a room full of bloggers and no cameras…. weird – but I can happily report that the store is everything we have come to love (and cross the border for) in Victoria’s Secret and ended up buying a bunch of stuff we needed and an equal amount of what we didn’t….  The only thing they were missing was the ‘Swim’ line, but they assured me that they will have it next year and it will be in store ‘seasonally’ thereafter.

Victoria’s Secret officially opens to the public tomorrow – Thursday August 26th – with a special appearance by none other than super hotness herself – Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima.

BISHA

This past Thursday I attended the media launch for the new hotel & residence being launched in this beautiful city…BISHA.

Bisha is the newest private-label hotel and residences brand to originate in Toronto since the Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts was introduced in the 1960s. Developed by masterminds Sam Herzog and Mel Pearl of Lifetime Developments and trend-setter Charles Khabouth of INK Entertainment.

I arrived at the Bisha sales office for the launch to hear sweet soulful Jazz music playing outside .. and then I look up to see this!

(How amazing?!)

Pure decadence, art, luxury and carefully crafted design are all perfect words to describe what Bisha is and what we will see in the upcoming three years until completion date, (expected occupancy date: April 10th, 2014). Amazing features such as a 24hr café and bar, world class dining, state-of-the-art fitness centre on the 40th floor and a variety of personal services, such as a high-end salon, pet walking, dry cleaning and grocery delivery! From the “Camille” Studio to the “Jaclyn” 3 Bedroom, there is definitely space for everyone at Bisha.

After walking around in awe for about 40 minutes, I met some new friends!

Me & Ray from Inqmnd

Ashley & Sumaya from Matchstick Inc.

(Thanks for being my dates guys!)

Make the leap for more of Bisha’s stunning decor

Cheers to Daniels Stephenson for an amazing launch & Matchstick for the invite!

the out takes…

So as most of you know I did the deed last week, I got hitched.  It couldn’t have been better and was all that I wished for.  I don’t have all of the pics, but I thought I would give you a little update on what went down.

As you know, the girls came in over the weekend and most peeps were in Dundee for the Monday before we headed up to the castle.  My parents hosted a lovely cocktail party on The Discovery, the actual boat that Captain Scott took to the  Antarctic.

some of my aunties!

On Tuesday morning we all headed up to Drumtochty Castle.  Most people rented cars but for us lucky few who were left behind we took what was misleadingly called, The Luxury Coach…

Lol!  But it was fun nonetheless.

Drumtochtly Castle is a magical place hidden in the hills of Auchenblae about 30 minutes away from Aberdeen- which had one of my favorite Aunts from Jamaica exclaiming, ‘How in da woorrll u find this place nah man!!”

I was finally frazzled when we got -the whole ‘everything is going to be fine routine was beginning to wear thin’ there but all of my worries were put to rest by hands down THE best event planning/event space manager everrrr, Ewan.  He runs Drumtochty and had promised me that everything would run perfectly and he was totally right.  People were checked in by a super cute little porter guy who followed my list of sleeping arrangements.  It got confusing for me because some people were sleeping in the ‘Stables’ (which are converted into cute flats) that were on the lower end of the property but Ewan and his trusty porter had it all under control.

The Stables

Lissa arrives!!!

As everyone got settled some of the girls played dress up

Some of the guys caught some rare rays

and I made some last minute adjustments with Ewan

Afternoon tea was served just as people came looking for something to nibble on

That night we had planned to have a bbq outside but do to the rain we had it inside.  Shortly after dinner Lissa started up the Karaoke machine and it was on!

Lissa and I rockin out to Roxannne! hahaha

Mark hopped on the keys and added some live musical back up for the singers. Magic!

Mark hopped on the keys and added some live musical back up for the singers. REEEEMIX!!!

rando dando castle shots with my bro and my cuz….

We finally headed to bed – some of us much, much later than others… AHEM. And got going again bright and early.  While most of the guests were clay pigeon shooting I started getting ready…

Colleen from Raezor Sharp did my hair and she was awesome!  She did exactly what I wanted in one try. -kiki did a touch up on my toes… bless her

The lovely Steph Flores came all the way from Toronto to do my make up and I couldn’t have been happier with the result.

My flowers were made by Rich from Nicky Walker .  He did me a major solid by snagging the only peonies anywhere (they’re out of season) and nailed the colour combo and style totally!

We were meant to get married outside -the grounds are beautiful- but it rained (something I wasn’t shocked or upset about, it is Scotland after all..) So we were wed in the front room which was just as lovely.

My two nephews (dressed in traditional Scottish outfits) were our ring bearers and my niece was my flower girl.  They were the cutest little things!

We had cocktails and canapes after the ceremony while a string quartet played and then had dinner and speeches in the main dining room (I have no pictures of the dinner yet, but I will post some when I get my hands on them).  Here are some randos

we drank it alllll. and then some!

we drank it alllll. and then some! my faaave!

my new bro in law

Lissa killed it on the 1′s and 2′s as usual and had no one wanting to go to bed.

Luckily, we included our favorite portable ballerina flats – Butterfly Twists - in our ‘welcome gift’ to all of the guests so everyone was able to change out of their heels and really get down!

Thanks Butterfly Twists! U saved my life!!

All in all we had such a blast and seriously would recommend Drumtochty to anyone looking to do a destination wedding somewhere off the beaten path.  But don’t worry, I will do a follow up post on all of the deets.  Thank you to everyone who called, sent a text, email, tweet or bbm, I really appreciate the support and well wishes!!

Big shout out to Ewan who made it all possible, getting everything organized, ensuring that it all ran smoothly and most importantly, filling me with just enough Veuve to keep me perfectly happy.  You’re a truly amazing man!

One more shout out to my Mum and Aunty Meg for helping me get everything together, I would have cancelled without you – no joke.  Also to my bridal party for being so kick ass, Lissa for being the best DJ in life, Steph for being the most amazing makeup artist, Adjoa for making the dopest cake alive and all of my other ladies that came out, had a blast and made it all so easy for me.  LOVE YOU ALL!!

Sorry if this post makes no sense or is all over the place.  I’m honeymooning in Thailand and am so laid back that thinking straight isn’t on my list of priorities…   And it’s amazing!!!   :)

lots of love,

coco

style: aritzia f/w 2010

Last week, I had the opportunity to check out the Fall/Winter Aritzia Collection. They are quite genius, having designed five lines to cater to different demographics, all sold under one amazing roof-Aritzia.

Here’s a description of each line based on what I got from the fashion show:

TNA is for the artsy fartsy. The girl who doesnt care to match because that would be conforming to the norm. She’s the one who isn’t afraid to wear ripped clothes and random layers.

Talula is for the student culture: The keener and the rebel both screaming out to be individual. Whether captain of the cheerleading squad or the goth girl who sits in the cafeteria alone, Talula mixes preppy with print, darkness with dancing queen.

Read on for more pics and info from the show!!

T. Babaton is for the working girl. She’s the intern trying to impress, the business owner too busy to try. She doesn’t need makeup, all she needs is a little lace under a chiffon top with a pair of dress pants and she looks polished and professional.

Wilfred is for the sweet girl screaming out to be sexy.  She’ll wear a scarf to hide her goods but a backless dress to send the message. Add a bright colour and throw the boys off with a loose pant and you are a woman of wonder.

Wilfred free is for the child of the wilderness: The outdoorsy type of girl who likes to throw on a wool sweater and watch the sunset on a brisk fall evening. She’s the peaceful ponderer, the grassroots type.

Also, make sure to keep an eye out for “A Moveable Feast” a dark line with greys, army greens. It has a sort of grim reaper feel for the darker side of us all.

scotiabank caribana festival 2010

I can already hear the steel pan drums and see the colourful costumes that will be worn and heard on parade day of Caribana 2010 but this internationally known festival is not just a parade. It is a representation of the multiculturalism this city has to be proud of. It is an exhibit of talent through performance, music, visual arts and who can forget the amazing food! On Sunday night, I went to the kick off party for Caribana’s two week long festivities and I wanted to remind you all of some of the amazing events that will be going on throughout our beautiful city of Toronto in the coming weeks.

wonderbra = wunderbar!!!

We walked into the WonderBra event thinking it would be a snore simply because we equated Wonderbra as the company that you either buy your training bra or your ‘mummy bra’ from.

Boy were we wrong!!!

WonderBra – an iconic Canadian brand -has been around since 1939.  Since then they’ve been able to  revolutionized the bra world time and time again and have even made the Guinness Book of World Records for record breaking sales of their Dream Lift Bra.

This particular event was centered around ‘perfect pairing’.  WonderBra has worked extremely hard to make the perfect bra for every occasion, making it possible for women to find within their line, the appropriate bra for everything from work to play.

They did a little show for us to give us some examples:

They even had a ‘minimizing’ bra (shown below). Perfect to wear under a button-up shirt that just won’t button up!

Lowe and I were lucky enough to get a personal fitting by their head designer to ensure the perfect fit!

haha!

haha!

A sneak-peak behind the scenes:

The Fall collection from WonderBra will be available exclusively in Walmart October 1st, retailing for $23.00.
