I’m not a big TV watcher but in the past couple of years, I feel like I’ve missed some of the best and most entertaining shows television has had to offer our generation. The Wire, Mad Men, Californication and even the funny ones like Gossip Girls, Keeping up with the Kardashians and The Real Housewives of…wherever.
The Answer: Surf The Channel!
Surf the channel is an index site. It doesn’t host the shows on the site but acts as a search engine, pulling up any site that has access to the episodes and shows you’re looking for. You aren’t limited to television either. Surf the Channel offers search for movies, talk shows, documentaries, music, sports, travel info etc.
I watched Mary and Max last night and was so delighted! It is an amazing story about life, loneliness and unconventional friendship told through claymation characters. The story begins with a lonely school girl in Australia who decides on a whim to write a letter to a random address she finds in the yellow pages. The letter reaches Max, an equally lonesome middle aged non-practicing Jewish man who shares Mary’s affinity for all things chocolate. The movie follows their 20 year pen pal relationship that is full of ups and downs and adventure. Mary and Max opened Sundance in 2009 but unfortunately didn’t get picked up – probably why I hadn’t heard much about it… If you’re looking for a good rental that will tug at your heart strings I highly recommend Mary and Max.
p.s. Philip Seymour Hoffman (the voice of Max) is phenomenal!
Jeff Bridges is so amazingly good in this movie!! I had no clue that he could sing like that. Wowza! Crazy Heart is super sad, but totally worth watching. I really hope Mr Bridges wins the Oscar for Actor in a Leading Roll *crosses fingers* Sorry Morgan and Colin, you guys rock, but Jeff KILLS in Crazy Heart!
I saw this on Lissa’s blog and I had to re-post! You guys already know how excited we are for this movie!! Can’t wait, it looks even better than I’ve imagined it would!!!
I had the pleasure of getting a pre-release copy of Chris Bosh’s documentary First Ink yesterday. I have to admit I went into watching the film with a little skepticism, ‘a movie about a tattoo?’ But after watching it, I now know I was totally wrong. This short film is about so much more than a tattoo. It’s about a man with extraordinary talents and even larger responsibility. Chris Bosh (the captain of the Toronto Raptors) wants to make a change, he wants to be more of the leader that he is destined to be. What was so interesting to me is that as a basketball fan you sometimes forget that the people you are cheering on (and occasionally booing) are actually human beings, with feelings and hopes and dreams. Seeing Chris Bosh’s absolute determination to put on weight and become stronger to enable him to be a more powerful player was inspiring especially because when you watch the games and see his stats this season you can actually see the product of his hard work.
Although the movie is centered around his transformation and him marking it with his first tattoo, it was totally motivating to see that even those we consider to be at the top of their game are still pushing to be better. I think Chris said it best when he said,
“You think you’re working hard? You can work harder.”
The other ‘quotable’ I took from the movie was said by Hadi Teherany Chris’ business partner and co-producer of First Ink:
“Life is too short to hold a grudge, even for a day.”
words to live by!
This movie would be a great gift for any sports enthusiast or just someone in your life that likes to learn about other people’s experiences. We are all struggling for something, we all have our own mountains to climb and crosses to bare and if we could all understand that I think we’d all be in a far better place.
