I knew I saw that somewhere…

So finally catching up on all of the music I missed while I was away and watched the Kanye Power video that Venus posted and it totally reminded me of the post I did on the videos that are played in The Standard Hotel in NY.  Apparently these videos were the inspiration behind his new video and he worked in collabo with the artist who created the originals, Marco Brambilla.

Here are the videos I took

you should watch: Flashbacks Of A Fool

I missed this movie when it first came out but luckily caught it on one of our ‘nights in’ while I’ve been away.  It’s totally fantastic and great to see Daniel Craig in a role other than James Bond.  You can probably rent it from your local movie rental spot and won’t be disappointed.

I -like everyone else who has watched this movie- became instantly obsessed with the Roxy Music song that Ruth sings.  I had to include it in the post, the version that is lip sync’d in the movie doesn’t start until around 1:40.

I’ve also included Ruth’s version because it’s so friggin cool!  I love the way this film is not only written and directed, but the way it’s filmed!

dopeness.

music: the bird and the bee

I am so fortunate that at my job, I get a chance to listen to a ton of bands/groups from Europe and all over the world from a slew of different genres, such as Electro, Synthpop, Indie, Alternative etc. It has definitely broaden my musical palate since 2006 and I couldn’t be happier.

I absolutely love music, and I realize that’s a pretty vague statement and in a way everyone loves music; but I actually find music to be more than just something to listen to, it makes me feel happy, sad, upset .. its messes with my emotions in so many ways good and bad! I have a song (or album!) to correlate with every different type of situation. A great song to pump when I’m stressed with the troubles of life, when I’m having a great day at work (or bad), a girls night out or something to make me fall asleep.

Music has such great power and can help you get through some really tough times (and it’s cheaper than therapy!), one song in particular was “Whatcha think about that” by the Pussycat dolls, I listened to at least 4 times a day when I was going through a tough breakup lol and then “Winter song” by Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareillis when I was okay with the breakup and ready to move on.

Which brings me to The Bird and the Bee, they are a Synthpop/Indie/Alternative duo from LA, and have worked with an array of different artists. The Bird and the Bee has a new album called “Interpreting the Masters Volume 1: A tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates” in which they cover Hall & Oates classics!

Now whether you grew up listening to Hall & Oates or you don’t know who they are, the album is a must by .. a beautiful soothing voice on every track and it’s constantly on repeat in the car; definitely a must buy!

Here’s my favourite song on the album, Sara smile …Enjoy!

Glasto blasto!

Glastonbury Festival is the largest open-air music and performing arts festival in the world! Located in Pilton, Somerset, England it’s best known for it’s musical acts, as showcases different genres such as Soul, Reggae, Folk, Electronic, Rock and Hip Hop.

Typically it’s over 400 live performances and attended by at least 150,000 people, and always on the last weekend of June; this year such amazing and diverse performances include… Snoop Dogg, MGMT, Florence & the Machine, Stevie Wonder, La Roux, The Holly Vessels, The Unthanks etc.

I absolutely adore high fashion, couture and contemporary fashion; but nothing compares to real casual street style, and I find that outdoor events/concerts such as (Glasto, Woodstock, Rose Bowl Flea Market, Coachella etc) bring out the best outfits and most creative! It’s very easy to interpret and get inspired to create your own look.

Here’s a few of my faves from Glastonbury ’10 . . .

(How cute are they, right?!)

I find that ‘street style’ is a true expression of Y-O-U; how your feeling that day, the weather, favourite colour fabric texture etc. Any little (or BIG) thing that contributes to your personality because we are all made of up of so many different things so be expressive and eccentric :)
